Hi, I’m Elijah McGowan.

I work with Cavalry Disaster Advocates, where my role is helping connect homeowners and families affected by wildfire losses with guidance and support throughout the insurance recovery process.

Growing up in Northern California, wildfire disasters were never something that felt distant. I remember weeks of smoke covering our town, and even having to leave home temporarily as fires changed direction nearby. While I don’t pretend to understand the experience of losing a home, those experiences gave me a lasting respect for the difficulty and uncertainty many families face during recovery.

What matters most to me in this work is making the process feel approachable. Many people are left navigating difficult questions around insurance, rebuilding, timelines, and next steps — often without clear answers or direction. My goal is simply to help make those conversations easier and connect people with the right support when needed.
